Mining metal is just a means to making money. I'm investing in a money making company not an ounce producing company. A company which makes money off a 0.1g/t deposit is better than a company who can't make money off a 10g/t deposit every day of the week.

And in a porphyry type deposit which starts pretty close to surface, I'd expect a stripping ratio of 1 or less. In terms of block caving (how i read "bulk underground mining method), the dilution would be pretty similar. In the end you'll have an effective grade above 0.2g/t + AuEq, which is not that bad at all. Majors mine those grades across the world.
