The timeframe to move from original discovery to first gold pour is at least 5-10 years. The chances of the government not doing something unfair in 5-10 years are low in jurisdictions like PNG. Even in 1st world countries with diversified economies like the US, AUS and CAN elections create a lot of uncertainty when it comes to mining. 5-10 years is 1-3 elections in these developed countries, which could be significant policy flip-flop and uncertainty. 5-10 years in some countries could bring anything from coups or civil war to multiple fair and free elections and no one could predict which it will be.
No one has a crystal ball to see the future, so it's best just to stay out and invest where you know the risks. That's what orefinders said they would do.
