Why would governments help businesses unless it is for the good of its citizens? Why would they help shareholders(and I happen to be one!)?
Governments (in theory!) are supposed to do what is best for their citizens. Help a company to grow if this is going to open/create new markets or prosperity to its people. Help to save or create jobs. Help their citizens to improve their quakity of life, etc.,etc.,etc.
Helping a company for one of the reasons above? Yes.
Helping a company for the shareholders6. No.
Lots of companies, when business is going sour for whatever reasons, are taking their employees hostages to get financial help from governments.
When you take a company like BBD which has more than often made decisions in favour of controling shareholders whether it made sense or not (salaries, share plans to executives (including family executives) one has the right to agree with governments positions.
