They are selectively mining the higher grade areas of the mine. This is known as "high-grading" a mine, and it is almost always a last ditch, desperate attempt for a mining company to try to show some profit out of a mine. It rips the long term mining plan for a mine to tatters. The fact that PG feels they have to high grade during the current pricing environment for precious metals demonstrates the complete ineptitude of their previous decisions.
