I think I got your thinking, its like this right?

Low for gold was around $1050 , and its 2011 high was $1921 say, is a difference of close too $900 right.

So $900 + say $1900 = $2800 per oz.   So yes I concur with your price target of gold!

And what the heck was that this morn?  A flush , some one wanted out at the bids, or took a market price for their shares.

I think the gold sector needs a rest , along with the price of gold! She is RED HOT and needs a rest.

Probably what the person thought this morning with the big sell at market.
