The Belgian entrepreneurs behind the supermarket group Colruyt are the main investor of a group that pumps 6 million euros into the German battery maker VoltStorage. According to De Tijd, the Colruyts invest through their private holding company Korys. They do not disclose what percentage of the shares they get. "Enough for a seat on the board," it sounds.

How do you apply for a home battery premium?
VoltStorage makes large batteries that people place in their homes to store the energy of their solar panels. “Usually houses with solar panels use only 30 percent of the processed energy. The rest goes to the electricity grid, "says Loc De Schaetzen, the investment director at Korys.

The Germans started in 2016 and now compete with numerous home battery makers, such as the American Tesla from entrepreneur Elon Musk.

More environmentally friendly
According to De Schaetzen, VoltStorage batteries are more environmentally friendly than classic batteries. Most other batteries are made from lithium and cobalt. “The mining of lithium is very damaging to the environment. That of cobalt often happens in poor working conditions and with child labor. ”

VoltStorage batteries are made of vanadium. “It can be found all over the world. Unlike lithium batteries, our batteries do not lose storage capacity when used. In addition, vanadium other than lithium is recyclable and non-flammable. ”
