From our experiences with LTC homes/visits is that most residents (jnmates) NEVER have any visitors or family member stop by for a lot of unknown reasons. We firmly believe it is the out of sight out of mind theory & their self centered life go on once their aging family members are signed in.... so sad
SIDE NOTE::: We were there (LTC center) a minimum 2-3 hours a day 7 days a week until we shamed other close by family members to help out & get involved & make time & take the time at least weekly. Volunteers also filled in to help with visits but many, many more are still needed to visit these elderly shut ins that reside in these LTC facilities..JMHO ......
When it is my time I'd prefer to stay in my own home as long as it was feasible and funds that are spent on these LTC hell holes would be diverted to provide essential services via PSW's, RNs even MDs or Telehealth and volunteers like meals on wheels. Nothing more preferable than the final journey to be from one's home to the crematory.
And yes TB we can visit each other for Scrabble or talk onskype/zoom every afternoon.
Cheers
