Stupid question but, would it make any difference if I bought specifically Alacer or SSRM stock at this point if they share prices of both are correlated now (if I buy before the deal is officially done)?

Several things to consider, but first my reply to a question about why are the shares are correlated....
"It's similar to  a stock trading on two different exchanges. If you don't care which you own at this time, you might as well buy the better "deal". For instance, if SSRM is trading at 26.50 and you wish to buy, you can pick SSRM @ 26.50 or ASR at  (26.50 x .3246 =) no more than 8.60. You're going to end up with SSRM anyway. So if you buy ASR @ 8.57, you save a bit and in turn it tends to move the price closer to ideal. In the above example, 1000 shares of SSRM or 3000 (3080 actual) shares of ASR you save about $90.

So if you really don't care what you are holding you can try to save a bit, but if you have a preference what to hold, I would go with that one just in case the deal tanks at the last minute. I'm holding ASR because that's what I had before the merger, and added to it from time to time. I believe that ASR has a better quarter last time, so I see that as another reason to hold.
