Well it was a bit of a non-event type of announcement.
The well publicized event turned out to be an announcement of Early Use Authorization (EUA) for convalescent plasma. This is received not unlike HCQ. It has been around for 100 years and has been discussed for a couple of months. It has not gone through a controlled study so the nay sayers are jumping on that immediately. A doctor from Vanderbilt University was interviewed and he has stated that he would not accept "anything" for "anything" until it has gone through all of the rigours of a full blown controlled placebo type study. He is not willing to short cut anything -- and the number of deaths happening does not appear to influence his thinking.
I was kind of hoping for an anouncement of a new well documented drug showing very good results - relatively speaking. The plasma routine supposedly has about a 35% reduction factor which the "experts" claim is very good.
That Vanderbilt doc is not willing to shortcut anything, but he & too many remain selfishly silent/ignorant (when they should be shouting) about the need for placebo-controlled/unbiased RCTs of HCQ as a combo drug in the well-known "triple drug" regimen...a regimen used during the "early" stages of illness. While objectivity/unbias is important in any clinical trial, the goal of saving lives gets eroded by this apparent & persistent ignorance/suppression of the potential benefits of early intervention. This is a real black eye for medical science & all of its contributors imo.
