However, Exxon did find oil in 2015 and has made over 15 major discoveries since then. The biggest challenge with Guyana till Exxon came around was the presence of a active source rock and corresponding reservoir/trap/seal. CGX in theory should have been able to leverage this big time and find a partner (other than Frontera) who would have been willing to drill for oil (multiple wells).
Ah well, least CGX is still alive and hopefully De Alba/Suresh pull off a miracle and help us get a JV partner who wants to drill multiple holes in Guyana. The world still consumes over 90 million boe/d and will continue to do so for many decades to come (regardless of how much ppl wish otherwise). Guyana will play a massive role in this oil supply for our lifetimes no doubt.
