What’s in a name? Anyone question the choice of new name for the company? Anyone curious as to how this new name aligns with the company's goals?
Sure, a new name change is indicative of a merger, and based upon the latest news release, Lende states that the company is working closely with two other companies, Protect Your Office and Get Ready On-Line. Furthermore, the host from Proactive refers to this as an alliance. What is an alliance but a merger? And, if this is a merger, which one company stands to benefit most?
Theoretically, the old name of Internet of Things speaks to the idea that the company embraces the concept that its business is literally all things associated with the Internet. This includes Smart homes to anything (literally fill in the blank and tack Smart to the front of it) communicating over the Internet. Given the two main products, Telematics and ThermalPass, the name of Internet of Things fits.
So, why the name change? Again, I understand the desire to short the number of outstanding shares and make the company appear more profitable and investor friendly. I understand the desire to play with the big boys. But why Predictiv AI? What does this name change say about the company's intentions? What does this name change say about the company's long-term goals?
If we take the name Predictiv and examine the base "predict", then we may determine that the goal of the company is to create software and hardware that aids in identifying patterns/ behaviors and determining/ manipulating projected outcomes. Given this, the Telematics product seems to be the clear focus, the long-term prize, and not the heralded fad of ThermalPass.
I hope that I am wrong. I hope that Lende is fully committed to ThermalPass. I just feel that a lack of a sense of urgency has left this product in the dust on the starting line.
