RE:New Guyana government looking to rebuild investor confidenceThank you for this article.
What is interesting about offshore Guyana is that other than the ExxonMobil JV, there is absolutely nothing else really going on. Yes, you have comanies kicking tires but ExxonMobil is the only real game in town. Does the new petroleum commission bite the hand that will feed them for potentially the next 40-50yrs?
One positive is that if Guyana government truly wants to see other activity happen outside of Exxon consortium, CGX/Frontera is one of its best options (for better or for worse). As any exploration manager would argue till blue in the face, many wells in a basin are required before an accurate assessment of oil prospects are understood. Corentyne offers one of these golden opportunities, especially since it is so close to Haimara/Pluma discoveries. At the very least, the government should want to know the updip extent of the massive oil plays in this region of the basin... especially when your dealing with up to 500 million barrel recoverable fields.
And hell, I am sure the government would love to see someone other than Exxon strike massive light oil... least provide some balance and external opportunity. Guess time will tell.
