Mining in Saxony

Mining in Saxony A local press release from July 29 about mining in saxony . EXN is not the only one .

Several mining projects in Saxony close to approval.

The Corona crisis has so far not slowed down the search for raw materials between Klingenthal and Zinnwald. Several investors are pushing ahead with their plans.
Freiberg. Despite the Corona crisis, mining companies in the Ore Mountains are pushing ahead with their projects for the exploration and extraction of valuable metals. This was explained by tobias Dreler, head of the department responsible from the Saxon OberbergAmt in Freiberg, at the request of "Freie Presse". The potential uncertainties resulting from Corona were no reason, for example, to reclaim licenses or to abandon exploration projects, Dreler said. Prices for precious metals such as gold and silver are currently high.
Several promising projects in the Ore Mountains are on the verge of removing important hurdles in the complex approval process. The closest to a new mine is the Freiberg company Saxony Minerals and Exploration AG, or SME for short. It wants to mine tungsten, tin and fluorite in the Luchsbach valley near Phla near Schwarzenberg. After the exploration by means of a specially trunfied shaft had failed to satisfy, the corresponding license has already been granted. The regional planning authority has already given its blessing to the required framework operating plan. The Oberbergamt is currently examining what the SME project would mean for the environment. A new mine in Phla would not be without controversy. In addition to 40 comments, 50 objections have been received by the Oberbergamt. "A decision this year is no longer to be expected," says Dreler. Such a planning approval procedure would take at least three years.
Just a stone's throw from Phla is the Hmmerlein-Tellerhuser deposit, for which Saxore Mining GmbH, also based in Freiberg, has secured the exploratory rights. An application for mining approval is now under way. This procedure at the Oberbergamt could be completed in the next few weeks. If Saxore wins the contract, it has a license to mine raw materials.

Of course, this does not mean the green light for a new mine there either. However, Saxore is already working on the required framework operating plan. A main operating plan would also have to follow for the establishment of a mine. He writes in detail how the mine is supposed to work - up to the machines used, the personnel and questions of occupational safety. This approval does not take as long as three months, Dreler explains. One step further is the German Lithium, also from Freiberg. The company, as the name suggests, is looking for lithium, which is predicted to be of growing importance when it comes to e-mobility. Lithium is particularly important for high-performance batteries. Deutsche Lithium has already received a permit for the Zinnwald area and submitted the framework operating plan. According to the comments, the company has these plans "adapted and optimised", according to the mining authority.

The Canadian company Excellon Resources is far from that. But two weeks ago, the Canadians started an exploration north and northwest of Freiberg with great effort. There, it is hoped, silver could still be stored on degradable scales. Deep drilling is now to show whether this hope is fulfilled.
