private vs public status

private vs public statusragingbull,  If i'm not mistaken Husky is incorporated in Canada.  I studied law (am a lawyer but not specialised in corporate) and I don't remember seeing that a public company has a different status or is a distinct legal entity than a private one. They are Husky inc. period.  Of course they have more obligations being public, but it seems to me as  contractual obligations.  The moment the company decide to withdraw for the public market, that doesn't change their legal status, that only means they are not regulated anymore by public corporation rules.
I will look up for a definitive answer
