So Mexico oil output last quarter matched the 1979 production total.  All of the easy, shallow water fields that made PEMEX great when AMLO was a young man are exhausted and PEMEX does not have the skills, tech, or money to develop the deep water and shale where the biggest reserves are. I think we will have to be patient while the PEMEX situation deteriorates further and AMLO weakens politically as a result.  Legislative elections next year may be opportunity to weaken him further and knock his party out of the majority.  Of course, he may abruptly change course,  but I doubt he would since he is an ideologue.
