RE:RE:RE:RE:Regenerative Acceleration explainedIn this case the dispelled power is converted into charging the battery rather than through heat grids as is the case on diesel locomotives. ......when dynamic braking first started (about 40 years ago) it could only control speeds and slow trains to maybe 10 to 15 mph.....now it is much more effective - speeds of 1-3 mph can be achieved. It's all about converting an electric motor into a power generator without wasting the power produced.
