I assume that we are here talking about "halo" as a different sequence of something already idenfied. That is, conglomerate gold which has its genesis in fossilized sediments.

The "halo effect " was a very fine golden sheen found in the conglomerate matrix immediately surrounding a coarse gold nugget.
I believe it was the result of erosion of the gold nugget itself, frozen as ultra fine gold particulate in surrounding host conglomerate.
