Back in the year 2000...

Back in the year 2000...I have been studying the chart for this company and went back all the way to the date of inception. I noticed the share price in the late 1990s trended approximately at where we are right now then around February 2000 the share price took off like a rocket to around $8.00 then by the end of 2001 it dropped sharply back to where it kind of started. I have been researching what lead to such massive swings in the share price but can not find anything on line. Is anyone familiar with the events back then? Perhaps the volatility then is attributable to the 1990s dot com bubble?
