The Latest in RNG Industry.

The Latest in RNG Industry.

A new study released last week by NGVAmerica compared public transportation subsidy programs in the states of Texas and California designed to transition the states to cleaner vehicle technologies.  The results of the study reveal that although California spent 46 percent more public money, focused primarily on EV technology, it achieved 43 percent less overall emissions reductions than Texas.  Texas has opted for an “all of the above” approach, including natural gas vehicles (NGVs) using RNG, and the study reinforces the fact that NGVs fueled with RNG are the most immediate and cost-effective carbon-free transportation solution available now.

In Europe, another trucking firm is moving to RNG as a fuelling option for a portion of its fleet.  Finnish trucking firm Posti is investing in biogas-powered trucks to reduce its emissions and create Finland’s largest biogas fleet operated by a transportation company.  The company estimates the new biogas trucks will reduce CO2 emissions by 1,620 tonnes annually.

SoCalGas, the United States’ largest natural gas utility, announced that it has commenced dispensing RNG at many of its natural gas fueling stations across California.  SoCalGas highlights RNG as an important tool in reducing GHG emissions and anticipates major growth of RNG production in California.  Over the next three and a half years, at least 160 RNG production facilities are expected to come online in California to serve transportation, replacing roughly 119 million gallon equivalents of diesel fuel.
