Regional Geology The regional geology of southern Namibia is dominated by the sedimentary rocks of the Nama Group that form the plateau of the Great Escarpment in the region. The plateau is formed by Basal Beds overlain by the Schwarskalk Series of the Nama system, which dips 5 to 10 E (Linning, 1963). The Basal Beds are described by de Kock (1935) as coarse grits, agglomerate and consolidated eluvium with unstratified arkosic grits. These are overlain by compact finer grained layered quartzite that make up the lowermost unit of the Nama Group.
