MERRIMACK, N.H. — A medical device company has designed a specialized COVID-19 testing kiosk that's about to be rolled out across the country, including in New Hampshire.

The first QuestCube pod will be at the Merrimack Premium Outlets.

"It's the only way to continue to thrive and not have this virus shut us down again," said Doug Sommerville, CEO of QuestCap.

QuestCap, a medical device company, will be running the testing pods in Merrimack and at several other locations in New Hampshire.

"The cubes are now rolling out across the United States, with the first ones operating right now in southern California," Sommerville said.

Dozens of them will be set up next week across the country. People can get tested for the coronavirus, as well as for antibodies from a previous COVID-19 infection.

"We have contracts now taking us close to 1,000, so it will be a progressive rollout as we go forward," Sommerville said.

The lab sites will be able to do more than 100 tests per day, and the results will be fast, Sommerville said.

"The goal is to be able to give a rapid test wherever rapid tests are able to be implemented, and barring that, we will do an overnight return of result," he said.

Prices range between $59 and $179, and insurance is accepted. People can make an appointment and make payments online.

Because it's going to start to get colder, Sommerville said people will appreciate being able to inside the pods, where safety measures will be in place. He said the process should take 10 minutes or less.

"I believe the demand this winter is going to be insatiable because everyone who has the cold or the flu is going to want to know if it's COVID," Sommerville said.

When a vaccine becomes available, Sommerville said QuestCap hopes to be there to help.

"Could we implement a vaccine program through these, the same way you came to get tested? Could you come there to get a vaccination?" he said. "So these are things we are looking at.
