What is Witwatersand? - My Attempt and a linkn to WIKIYes. The witwatersand basin is a large conglomerate Neoarchean geological structure in South Africa. It was discovered in the 1870's (?) and it is from this deposit that ~60% of the worlds gold was mined. So that is alot of gold!! The deep deep south African gold mines are still mining this deposit 150 years later and it is far and away the richest, most profitable mining district ever. I believe the theory is that lode gold was eroded into a basin of conglomerate (small broken up) rocks much like placer deposits today (Yukon style gold mines). However this was 2.5-2.7B years ago,so the small rocks and gold formed into a sedimentary rock which is extremely rich in gold. I am not going to pretend I understand it all, but I do know that geologists and investors get extremely excited anytime anybody THINKS they have found this type of deposit so I bought some shares today. Novo gold is the last company I am aware of thought they has a whitwatersand 2.0 style deposit and they may very well. Their stock chart reflects a lot of excitement if you go back to 2017 which is when I was lucky enough to invest in that one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witwatersrand_Basin
