In this case the stock is rocketing up. So, if true, the investors got lucky.
There is also the risk that the stock crash could crash during the time it takes for a deal to organized. If it does, investors can't say "Nevermind, send me my money back".
Even if one knew that the stock price would stay flat, selling a big block of shares at once means that buyers are going to get a discount.
And, to be honest, yes you did miss something. I hope you don't take offense, but it was well known that more financing and dilution was needed to fund drilling. Hopefully you did your research before buying and realized this. Also note that in one of the recent Torrey Hills Capital videos, the company even said that there was going to be another financing.
