RE:From Flagstaff city council, sept 2020Thanks for sharing. This is insane. The document states that basically the project is fine, but it somehow is an "area of concern".
"With the LCR bifurcating Red Gap Ranch and the area proposed for helium development, a contamination plume reaching RGR is very unlikely as contaminated water would need to flow upgradient from the LCR to groundwater below RGR. An exception to this general rule is where groundwater pumping alters the flow path of water. Pumping centers located in the LCR watershed near Holbrook and Winslow would capture the contamination before reaching Red Gap Ranch. Additionally, the travel time alone for any contaminated water to move through the subsurface and reach Red Gap Ranch 80 miles away is likely on the order of hundreds of years. This fact together with the flow path of water towards the LCR greatly reduces a concern for contamination to reach Red Gap Ranch."
