You're right VP.
The practice of assigning value is so varying in practice.
One goal post is establishing value on everything that is known today, and putting a dollar figure on these known assets.
The other goal post is assigning valuation at a future date based upon the estimated trajectory of various moving parts. A speculative valuation.
And every single investor resides somewhere between these two goal posts. A million shades of grey - maybe more , maybe less. That's why it's so difficult for all of us to agree on a company valuation.
Everyone is essentially on their own with how they perceive the present and expected future value. And pays for it accordingly.
It's almost futile to judge it all, until it becomes a rear view mirror event.
