Demonizing Russia is a peculiar hangup of the US establishment, Republican & Democrat, ever since the October Revolution. One reason that Trump stood out in the early days with his outreach to foreign adversaries was that he seemed refreshingly different from HRC with her mantra of "Putin puppet".....just as silly as her "basket of deplorables." And all through their whining campaign of "Russian interference" the Democrats were blissfully unaware, it seems, that the US government and its scores of nefarious agencies routinely and frequently "interfere" in the affairs of other governments including attempted assassinations (Fidel) actual ones (Lumumba, Allende), sundry colour "revolution" elections (Ukraine, Lebanon etc. or toppling elected prime ministers (Mossadegh) etc.
It seems the US cannot fathom a foreign policy that does not have a "monster" integrated into it. The brief interregnum we enjoyed after the collapse of the Soviet Union was rudely interrupted by GWB and his GWOT. Now they can't seem to decide whom to blame (Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela???) for the world's problems...but never their own policies and blunders.
