Only the cabinet and Finance ministry know. Many options including increasing income taxes, increased HST, no longer exempting private residence from capital gains, or most likely increasing inclusion rate on stock capital gains. Every one has their own strategy mine was to sell most of my stocks and re-purchase those I feel confident about....this may not be worth it if you are early in your investing career but definitely worth it in retirement or pre-retirement years.
We have an anchoring tendency when you have owned a stock for a long time, free up the cash and your attitude will change, in my case a smaller investment.. MOZ was one of about 20 stocks.
Regarding coming out of the woodwork I had a limited posting history on MOA from 2002-2010, overall I post about once a month on SH in general. My return on MOA was a little less than 8% per year over 27 years. The best thing about MOA was acquiring knowledge of WM, CGP and EDV all of which I heavily invested in (and recently reduced).
Good luck, hopefully I am wrong on CGT.
