umm ... well, one name does come to mind; not that I'm suggesting any semblance of a repeat scenario here :) That would be "Bre-X", who had big funds buffalowed, and were assisted in their astonishing and spectacular "gold salting" piracy by one of the most respected engineering firms (at that time), Kilborn, whose involvement with the project assisted in giving it a degree of legitimacy.
Have to admit though, it was fascinating to watch it rise from $0.10 to $280 !
One beneficial result of that phenomenal scam though, was the tightening of Canadian reporting regulations regarding disclosure of mineral projects, with the creation of NI 43-101.
Do I suggest any semblance of similarity between Bre-X and NFG ? Of course not !
