Mt. Heathy install something to think about itWhile TJ Dooley has the school baord focused on deterring gun violence, I see a huge flaw in the PATSCAN system he installed at the school in Mt. Healthy. A huge part of the PATSCAN system is the column’s students walk through with the detectors hidden inside. Patriot One uses them to detect weapons – they are more or less hidden metal detectors. The problem I see is that most students bring back packs to school with ordinary allowable metal devices such as phones and computers over and above purses and metallic jewelry. The picture I saw TJ Dooley post of the school entrance to the event center does now show any separate area to have bags scanned. How does the PATSCAN system allow students to enter the building without setting off the alarm while carrying a backpack filled with a computer for example? You realize that airports solve this problem by checking all bags and metal objects through the x-ray scanner off to the side staffed with people to complete that function. While this is added cost to the average flight, imagine the labor and cost required to manually check every bag going into each school at each entrance. How was the system installed without recognizing this problem beforehand? No wonder the system has yet to be tested since it was installed a couple months ago.
