Is that you in the right asking the questions? My wife said you are very handsome!

OldGold wrote:      The Cascavel mine has the potential to become a high-grade producer. Before Orinoco took over the mine, the local miners were extracting up to 1.2 kg of gold per day and averaged around the 300 to 700 grams per day for many years. They employed extremely basic mining methods and eventually where beaten by water inundation.

The area they mined was what we call the intermediate zone, or the transition zone. When Orinoco took over, they carried out a small drilling campaign and after putting an exploration decline in, decided to mine to the North of the historic decline. This turned out to be a poor decision as the grades to the North where far lower that the grades in the South of the mine where the old garimpeiros, or artisanal miners, had mine for many years.

There are two separate veins of gold at Cascavel that are know to date, the Cascavel vein to the North and the Mestre vain to the South. The area where the two meet is the intermediate zone, as the two came together, they folded around each other and generated low pressure areas causing higher grades of gold to deposit there. In this video, one of the old garimpeiro miners that had taken employment with the new company confirmed the stories about the quality of the gold in the intermediate zone.

It only runs for a few minutes and is well worth the look. This is part one of the intermediate zone, I will post part two in a few days when I get time. It runs for about half an hour but is probably one of the best videos I have seen explaining the zone. It is given by the then underground geologist and he does a great job explaining it. One thing that really struck me was how rarely this sort of mineralisation happens. But more on that later.
