The Company continued expanding its existing joint venture with Enagon Inc. for postharvest bale breaking and milling in order to increase its production capacity of saleable milled hemp flower product.
The lease of the industrially-zoned 4,500 square foot facility in Lacombe, Alberta is for one year ending June 2021 with rolls and extensions possible, providing flexibility to expand operations to another location if required after this first year.
Upon taking possession, Gaia and Enagon have begun outfitting the facility with equipment and completing some minor renovations in order to achieve the proper floorplan and dust-management systems required to optimize bale breaking, milling operations, rebaling of separated hemp fibre, material handling and storage of finished product.
Since having taken over the facility in Lacombe for the expansion of milling operations in mid-June, bale breaking has gradually resumed over the summer months with the intent of separating fibre, seed and flower in preparation for their sale down respective supply chains. Fabrication and modification of additional specialized equipment is being undertaken to speed up the bale breaking and the post-harvest separation operations.
Permitting applications have been submitted with the county and the intended use - Health Canada Licensed Hemp post-harvest milling and conditioning - fits well within the county bylaws for permitted use of cannabis industry facilities. Business license and permit applications have now been received.
Green Room’s provincially approved cannabis store has completed staff training and the Nelson location is being prepared for opening. Management is on-site and continues to stay actively involved to ensure a successful launch.
