Not a classy move..... With his company in the midst of a takeover, Great Canadian Gaming Corp. chief executive officer Rodney Baker has resigned after being charged under Yukon's Civil Emergency Measures Act. Authorities there claim that he and his wife travelled to an isolated community called Beaver Creek and received a COVID-19 vaccine. In doing so, they allegedly failed to adhere to isolation requirements.
Great Canadian reported Mr. Baker's resignation on Monday morning, saying nothing about the reason for his departure. The board "has accepted Rod Baker's resignation as Director, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company and its operating subsidiaries effective January 24, 2021," a sparse news release states. The company appointed Terrance Doyle as interim CEO.
The reason for the resignation became apparent later in the day, when the Yukon News reported the names of two individuals charged with violations of the Yukon Civil Emergency Measures Act. The publication said that Mr. Baker, 55, and his wife, Ekaterina Baker, 32, were ticketed and charged in Whitehorse on Jan. 21, 2021. Authorities claimed that they went to a vaccine clinic in Beaver Creek, a community of about 100 people near the Alaska border, and received shots. Local residents observed the couple at the clinic and contacted authorities. Mr. Baker and his wife received fines of $575 each for violating the self-isolation requirement for travellers. They have 30 days to contest the fines or pay them.
