RE:two chartsYou're confusing cause versus effect. The same big spike in early January 2018 can be seen on the chart of any pot stock, and that was caused by the legalization of adult recreational cannabis in California on January 2, 2018. The crash that followed a couple of days later was caused by a speech that US Attorney General Jeff Sessions made on (or about) January 4 that dumped cold water on any idea that the US federal government would follow California's example.
In other words, the big volume was the effect, not the cause. The cause was news - specifically legalization of pot in California.
I dont remember exactly, but I'll guess that the earlier, smaller spike was related to the Trudeau government being elected with a promise to legalize pot in Canada.
