OREA/NG, (France) Guiana and Responsibility. Wake Up!

OREA/NG, (France) Guiana and Responsibility. Wake Up!The following article is not directly about NG/OREA and the Montagne d’OR mine, nor is it about FG gold mining. Rather, it deals with the large-scale asylum-seeking problem that is confronting FG. It suggests why so many people (potentially more foreign than indigenous) are so involved in illegal gold mining in FG.

It begs the question why France is not focused on getting this new mine with potentially 1000s of direct and indirect jobs going now? Forests are vital, but then so are peoples’ livelihoods and lives. This is the exact same question that is now being raised e.g., in the US re., so many adults/kids out of work and school for so long, and the now obvious detrimental impact on so many people’s lives. Just multiply that with the lack of any support facing so many in FG.

FG is clearly reeling under the devastation of pandemic, large asylum seeker numbers, exploited illegal workers and already high unemployment. So, to help this dying country (and yes as a OREA shareholder I am very biased re this issue): 1. The Russians need to get off their backsides and get these cutting edge mine reports and applications into France now! 2. The French need to take full responsibility for this forlorn part of their country and act quickly in the people’s best interests. 3. Open up all possible avenues for mining revenue generation in FG, while demanding the absolute highest levels of social/environmental mining responsibility with ‘death penalty’ clauses re., project loss for failure to meet all standards documented. 4. Hold all ‘granted’ (including those exploring), companies immediately responsible for designing ways to assist the communities in which they will explore/mine. Barrick, Newmont, NG/OREA and IAG, etc., could all do this; together, these companies could have a serious impact on FG from all standpoints. Are companies 'their brothers keepers'? Gold miners, etc., all over the world have shown, yes they can be (and yes this means shareholders can also partner with their company re., these increased demands on company revenue).

Finally, the question is where are the leaders in FG demanding this sort of driven national action towards the betterment of their compatriots. Where are the environmental groups so loud for saving forests, yet unheard when watching the suffering of people with so little? Where are the voices!!

French Guiana in South America has emerged as a key destination and transit point for migrants and asylum seekers trying to reach Europe, attracting thousands in 2020 from as far away as Syria and Yemen, as well as many Haitians, Venezuelans, and now Cubans.
Over the past six years, the influx has grown steadily, placing what little infrastructure there is in the French overseas territory under severe stress and leaving many of those hoping to start new lives struggling to get by and with little assistance….
