Carjacking tech: How police are using GPS products to track down stolen cars

OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown

Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is an OnStar feature that helps authorities recover a vehicle reported as stolen by reducing its speed.

Part of the OnStar Stolen Vehicle Assistance feature set, Stolen Vehicle Slowdown works when the police have confirmed that conditions to slow a vehicle down are safe. OnStar sends a slowdown signal to the vehicle, which gradually slows the vehicle, thereby allowing the police to move in quickly and safely.

Stolen Vehicle Slowdown typically requires that a vehicle be reported as stolen to the police.
