My understanding is that, in order to prevent short sellers from accessing your shares, you have to either take possession of your shares (This becomes complicated if you have have shares in a TFSA or an RRSP.) or put in a 'ask' at obviously a higher price.

My problem is what if the shares are selling at $0.45, you are asking $2.00 and some company out of the blue makes an offer of $3.00 for all of the shares. Do you lose your shares at $2.00? I'm also not sure if the Brokerage Firm will allow you to have a high 'ask' such as $100.00 in order to protect you from this type of situation.
