Such approval is mandatory for the placing on the market of medical cannabis flowers treated with ionizing radiation
Farmako ensures the sustainable supply of medical cannabis to patients by having the necessary permits
Frankfurt, February 14th, 2020. Farmako, the Frankfurt-based company specializing in pharmaceutical wholesaling, confirms that the necessary approvals have been obtained in accordance with the Ordinance on Radioactive Medicines or Medicines Treated with Ionizing Radiation (AMRadV).
Farmako GmbH is one of the few pharmaceutical wholesalers that holds the approval granted by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) for the medical cannabis flowers currently available on the German market that have been treated with ionizing radiation. This special approval is absolutely necessary for the marketing of radiation-treated drugs.
Farmako continues to prove itself as a reliable pharmaceutical wholesaler who ensures a sustainable supply of cannabis medicinal products to patients.
Cannabis flowers as herbal medicinal products are often treated with ionizing radiation (e.g. gamma rays) by specialized, licensed irradiation companies in order to free them from potentially harmful germ contamination (sterilization) and thus counteract possible health risks in the context of the treatment of patients with cannabis flowers. Such radiation sterilization or decontamination is also used in other areas of pharmaceutical production, e.g. for antibiotics or sterile medical products. According to available studies, radiation sterilization does not cause any significant changes in the composition of medical cannabis and is therefore a recognized method of decontamination
