RE:EVs in the cold Cold Weather and EV's will be a problem. https://www.tesla.com/en_CA/support/winter-driving-tips
Basically, you have to "precondition" the battery by heating it. Not unusual even for ICE vehicles in the north. In fact, modern diesels are so efficient, that on idling, not enough heat is generated to keep the engine warm.
Heating the vehicle is also a problem. ICE vehicles have "waste" heat that is used to warm man and beast alike, keep the vehicle free of frost. Tesla recommends "If your door handles are frozen, bump the handle with the end of your fist until the ice is broken."
Battery University reports "A battery that provides 100 percent capacity at 27°C (80°F) will typically deliver only 50 percent at –18°C (0°F). The momentary capacity-decrease differs with battery chemistry."
Basically, as it stands now, at -30 expect about 30 to 40% capacity from a battery, and expect to consume a substantial portion of that power to heat the vehicle and battery once unplugged. In Yellowknife, no one needs to drive more than 20 km, so you'd be good. Don't try to go down the winter roads.
