Shadow inventory was a problem in the past in that there was far higher inventory in reality than the LME indicated. That has supposedly been corrected. At minimum the amout the LME has listed is the amount held in warehouses although it could be higher. There are other drawdowns happening right there in secondary supply IE ore reserves at Chinese ports and stainless steel scrap.
