Robalino: the Mining Law is clear, the consultation cannot terminate existing concessions Thursday, February 18, 2021 The Mining Law is clear, the popular consultation cannot terminate the existing concessions, since these would generate very large international demands, in addition to the fact that the law is not retroactive.
This was explained this Thursday by
Andrs Robalino, president of the Cuenca Chamber of Industries, when pronouncing on the anti-mining consultation held in Cuenca. In his opinion, the positive impact that the mining sector can generate was not analyzed and indicated that neither the mayor of the capital of Azuay nor his councilors have presented proposals for the reactivation in Cuenca.
He reproached the political position of the authorities to generate this consultation without having a proposal for the productive sector, this being the responsibility of the authority: to generate stability and employment.
As for illegal mining, Robalino considers that this should also be solved by local authorities, "this is not just a problem for the government."
"The legal mining projects that are currently in Cuenca: Ro Blanco and Loma Larga, meet all environmental requirements in their processes," he said. (PMB)
