RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Bad news usually impacts for 3 days (or more)Hey Young
Interesting. I have a slightly different view of the utility/renewables space.
As background, my wife and I own a full position of AQN, CPX, EMA, and FTS and a partial position of NPI.
I think AQN and CPX are fairly valued but strong buys at this pointt for their future growth. I think EMA and FTS are screaming buys, especially for an income investor.
I differ with you on NPI. I think it's still a bit over-valued (and really was at >$50). I actually think the whole renwables space is a sell. We recently sold all of our BEP.UN and have trimmed 60% of our NPI (for very large profits, I might add). I would have sold more NPI but it's in a non-reg account so some big capital gains taxes.

In fact Algonquin and Northland Power are probably the closest you'll get to fair value in the sector. Northland might be a little closer to fair value, but I guess it depends on what metrics you use to determine the valuations.
When it comes to being overvalued for the renewables sector if you said TransAlta Renewables, Boralex, Brookfield Energy Partners, and Innergex were overvalued then I would have to agree. The valuations on those stocks don't make sense to me when compared to AQN and NPI.
In my opinion Algonquin and Northland are the two most reasonably valued in the sector. Northland has provided better historic returns vs Algonquin, especially the last 12 months. I think either choice is a good choice right now, especially after today's dips.
