Gold Summary for Feb. 23, 2021

Rising boats on a falling tide were rarities in the gold sector today, but Robert Carrington and Robert Archer's Newrange Gold Corp. (NRG) bucked the trend initially, getting as high as 14.5 cents before ending the day up one cent to 12.5 cents on 3.57 million shares. The modest rally followed word that Newrange has drilled a 13.7-metre near-surface interval averaging 4.38 grams of gold per tonne at its Pamlico project in west-central Nevada.
A 4.5-metre zone averaging 12.47 grams per tonne accounted for much of that gold, but the single hole produced somewhat deeper gold as well, with 5.52 grams per tonne over 7.2 metres and 13.01 grams per tonne over 1.5 metres. All that mineralization lies within 117 metres of surface.
Mr. Archer, chief executive officer, says that finding more high-grade gold close to the existing Merritt zone is "an exciting development" that appears to validate the company's theory that multiple high-grade zones surrounded by lower-grade halos exist over a much broader area. Historical mining may have removed some of the high-grade gold from the hills, Mr. Archer acknowledges, but he and his crew are confident that other, buried zones await discovery.
As a result, more drilling is planned to delineate the new area, just 85 metres east of the Merritt zone. At least five holes are planned in a 2,000-metre program that would test a deep geophysical target running 2,500 metres from north to south and 1,000 metres from east to west. As well, a second anomaly, within the Skarn zone, is slated for drilling. That sounds like a lengthy to-do list for a five-hole program, but Mr. Archer says that the program, set to start in mid-March, is likely to be expanded as assays and geophysical data are received.
Some of the earlier mining at Pamlico took place in the late 1800s, but Newrange still considers the property underexplored, in part because it has been held privately for most of the years since. Newrange acquired the project in 2016; progress since has been slow. The stock got to 17 cents in early January, but initial assays from Pamlico pushed it back to 10.5 cents. Those results showed just 0.115 gram of gold per tonne over 15.25 metres from seven holes at Gold Box Canyon and a 15.24-metre hit among seven holes at Good Hope Mine managed just 0.75 gram of gold per tonne.
Newrange did better last fall at Merritt, where a hole produced 14.85 grams of gold per tonne over 9.15 metres, news that briefly sent the company's stock to 19 cents. It got to 43 cents last July as the drills got turning at Pamlico, but the enthusiasm was shattered late that month when the first assays mustered just 0.45 gram per tonne over 41.2 metres. Mr. Archer continues to cheer Newrange's improving understanding and the occasional noteworthy high-grade hit, but for the most part, Pamlico has been far more halo than high-grade.
