Just so there is no confusion - imho, the dried ice is to ensure that the clock doesn't start ticking on the lifespan of the reagent until it is installed and activated. This means KNR has some room to stock the reagent without it "going bad" early, and so the 'lifespan' of the detection unit is maximised.
Same reason your grocery wholesaler delivers fruit to the grocery store in refrigerated trucks.
