RE:RE:RE:Mining in Mexico
Click bait is right. Goofy bills get brought forward by individual elected officials in every legislative body, and just as often they get shot down. This one is inconsistent with rights enshrined in the NA free trade agreement, with Mexico's need of foreign investment, and with the success that investment has brought. It's worth noting that Mexico's economy is totally integrated with its two northern neighbours and it's very large, 13th largest in the world, 11th by PPP. It's the world's largest producer of silver and top 5 or ten in several other metals. Mining and exploration in Mexico is huge, and funded by a mix of local and foreign companies, with billions in incoming foreign investment. And Mexican companies also operate and own assets in other countries. I suspect the newly elected minister is learning about how foreign money greases the wheels amd how Grupo Mexico and other Mexican companies would rather not be subject to retaliation, and will soon back off.
