RE:RE:RE:Hello My understanding is you have to own the shares before the market opens on the ex-dividend date. I don't think the trade has to have settled yet.
I think you could sell the shares on the ex-dividend date and still get the divvy.
Keep in mind, if a stock closes at $10 the night before ex-dividend, and the divvy is $0.20 then the market will display a price of $9.80 the morning of exdividend to reflect the payout of the dividend. Sometimes market momentum ignores this and sometimes not. Tread carefully with this trading strategy.

I am thinking of buying bce. question...how long BEFORE the "ex date" one has to buy and how long do you have to keep the shares AFTER the "ex date" to qualify for the dsivident.
