Why stock turned positive at the close

This stock would have closed most likely in red as the DOW continued to tank further near the close along with most stocks in the sector.

But in the case of OGI there was a decent size buy order of about 265000 to be executed at the closing price of the day or Market on Close. The correct term would be a positive MOC imbalance of 265000 shares. I don't remember the exact number of shares.

Some traders trade MOC imbalances. If they is a negative imbalance they sell it and try to buy back lower if there is a big buy order then they buy it immediately and sell at the MOC price . One needs a lot of experience to execute these trades because sometimes the closing price goes in the other direction.

There are certain institutions that prefer to buy and sell shares at the MOC/closing price of the day. On most days the order sizes are very small but there are days when size can be in millions of shares.

Usually when you have rebalancing of indices the MOC volumes in the shares of the companies added and deleted can be huge. I do sometimes trade the stocks that are added to major indices. It can be profitable.
