RE:Coal is british columbia biggest exportCoal Exports from B. C.
Coal is the single biggest export from B. C.
The coal is almost all Metalurgical coal ‘Coking” used for making steel
Its interesting that there are 3 export terminals for coal on
the B. C. Coast, near White Rock, North Vancouver and
Prince Rupert. The biggest mining area is in the east Kootneys
near Sparwood, just along the Alberta border.
I am told there are 12 to 14,000 jobs in this industry, mining
railways, and port/martitime workers.
Teck Resources Mine employ 3000 to 3500 workers at Elk Valley.
This is huge business, with an average of 11 unit train/day
each of 120 to 140 cars heading to the ports and coming back empty.
An engineering marvel that is world class.
The BC politicians including the NDP ignore the carbon side of
the story – it is just too important to the province and too many
union jobs are involved.
The Greens mouth off every now and again but are taken aside
and told to STFU or there will be trouble.
Last federal election you may remember that Jerry Dias, President
of the United Steel Workers followed Trudeau around generally
mouthing off and making an bonehead of himself – seems the Coal union
Cowboys told him to stay away from their operations and dial down
his carbon tax BS.
To prove their point the made sure that a one time NDP MP
Steffel who was mouthing off on environment issues did not
get re elected they supported the Conservatives.
