My issue with dividends, From the investors side, if I wanted income I would invest in bonds. From the company's side, why not put the money to better use? Especially for an oil and gas company, if times are really good, i.e., $100 oil, sure pay a 5% dividend, why not. But anything less than $60 oil, no; its draining cash that should be preserved. I'd much rather company's take a risk and make a risky investment of some kind: buy extra rigs, buy up riskier lands, invest in a oil or gas plant, hell even buy up a stake in a competitor. If it works out, it can work out really well; if not, hey at least they took a risk and tried. I'm not in this for any dividends, I'm after capital gains. In this case, its a real shame that this plant was such a cluster %$#%. How on EARTH did this ever get approved? It must have some kind of salvage value or yeah spend the extra money to convert it and make it useful IMO. Alas I'm no engineer.
