RE:RE:RE:yikes .... There are definitely wells that are exploration and are simply drilled, logged, and abandoned. It's too difficult to design a well for production without knowing what's there. The evolution of the well designs generally evolve as the asset moves from exploration, to appraisal, and finally development. Exploration and strat wells are generally drilled conservatively with only information as the primary objective. Appraisal generally looks to optimize well design as more is learned about the reservoir. And finally, development wells are generally cookie cutter, and in manifacturing process, with gains eeked out through optimization.
A well designed to be perfed is very different than a barefoot or gravel pack completion. As well as the well design needs to take into account future completion designs like rod pumps or screw pumps. None of this is known so it would likely be a waste to turn this into a production well.
