Another possibility is short-covering

Another possibility is short-coveringYesterday's buying could be short covering too. We may find out if the short position drops in the month-end short position report. The January short position of 413786 + 795841 = 1 209627 shares was created at an average price of $2.17. If this was the short covering then the short position is breaking even with the borrowing and other commissions

Short positions are reported twice a month. First report as on 15th and end of the month. Usually, the report comes out about 3 days from the report date.

The exchanges need to do a better job of reporting short positions, it should be reported daily. This would make shorting more transparent.
